Allianz Global Wealth Map

Despite a challenging geopolitical and economic environment, global financial assets reached a new record of EUR268.4trn in 2025, rising by 8.6%. Global wealth creation ran on autopilot, driven by markets, which accounted for four out of every five euros of additional wealth, while fresh savings fell by 5.4% to EUR4.1trn. This underscores the growing importance of portfolio composition in determining who benefits most from these gains: in 2025, securities outperformed all other asset classes, expanding by 12.4%, more than twice the pace of deposits (5.7%) and insurance and pension assets (5.0%); their share of global financial assets consequently climbed to a record high of 46.9%. Over the past decade, valuation gains accounted for 71% of North American financial-asset growth, against 36% in Western Europe. As a result, US financial assets grew 3.1pp faster than Europe’s, despite Europeans’ greater savings effort relative to existing assets, indicating that saving more does not necessarily mean accumulating more wealth.
