Why our Allianz colleagues Nadja and Robin are cooking for soldiers in Ukraine

"I felt this overwhelming sense of injustice and anger," recalls Robin Kroha, who works as Head of Global Protection and Resilience at Allianz Services. He certainly shares this assessment of the first news and images from the besieged Ukraine with most people in Europe. However, the consequences he drew from it set him apart. Instead of being paralyzed by the events, he and his wife Nadja Kroha, working as Lead of Regulatory Strategy and Future Trends at Allianz Lebensversicherungs AG, decided to take action.

The very same day of the invasion, they donated money to the Ukrainian central bank and began scouring the internet for all kinds of information and ideas on how to help. From memes against Russian war propaganda to creative fundraising auctions, Robin and Nadja got involved across the spectrum. And when they heard about the opportunity to volunteer in a kitchen in Lviv, they didn't hesitate.

In Nadja Kroha's case, this determination originated in her childhood; fleeing the devastations of war is part of her family history. She realized early on that not everyone lives in freedom and the invasion of Ukraine rekindled her desire to change that. With the support of colleagues and superiors at Allianz, the couple has already been able to provide aid in Lviv for several weeks. – by chopping kilos of vegetables every day and preparing meals for the Ukrainian soldiers. And even though they had to witness the fact that missile alarms are now part of everyday life in the city, their experiences there were largely shaped by enriching encounters. They have made many friends in Lviv and are now united in their belief in freedom - and victory.
